I’m not very good at prayer, so whenever I pray in front of a microphone, I write the prayer down ahead of time. At least then the prayer is coherent and stays on topic. Anyways, it’s pretty easy to copy and paste, so you might find some of these prayers useful. You might notice they follow themes from the 24 lessons of Celebrate Recovery.

Admit

Our Lord, We’ve done some terrible things. We know this because we feel the pain of our guilt, and because you told us in your word, and because our enemy likes to remind us how awful we really are. We fall at your mercy and we surrender to your will. Lead us back to you. Fill our heart with your love, so there’s no room in there for stupid lies. Thank you for brothers and sisters with your grace, so we don’t have to go through the pain of this broken world alone. Give us courage to face our addictions and our flaws, and put them in the open. Give us freedom today, so we don’t have to wait for the glorious day you bring us home. Amen.

Give

Father in heaven, we come to you in need of healing, we come to you for direction. We know that when we go our own way we get stuck and we get hurt. Thank you for the times you allowed us to suffer so that we would finally turn to you. We try to run from our pain, but we’re here tonight asking you to use our pain to accomplish your purpose. You’re the only one worth praising, and you’re worth praising every second for the rest of our life. Amen

Confess

Father, you are so good to us. Your love is endless. Ours is not. Forgive us for the times we run away from you, like you’re not gonna see us. Forgive us for the times we try to keep our pain to ourselves because we’re too prideful or too afraid to give our pain to you. Keep the shame off us, fill us with truth so we don’t believe this lie that you’re not on our side. We know you’re on our side. You already won the battle and you’ve handed us the victory. You get all the glory for that. Don’t let us take any glory for ourselves. You get all the praise, You get all the honor and the thanks, for as long as you give us breath. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Sanity

Father, we praise you for all the amazing things you do, especially for giving us power to break free of the traps we’ve set for ourselves. Without you, it’s impossible for us to do the right thing, but you’ve made all things possible if we surrender our idols. We need your help to stay focused on you and on the other people you want us to bless today. Give us the wisdom to live a new life that gives you glory. Amen.

Grace

Lord God, we come to you in need of healing; we come to you for direction. We know that when we go our own way we get stuck and we get hurt. Thank you for the times you allowed us to suffer so that we would finally turn to you. We try to run from our pain, but we’re here tonight asking you to use our pain to accomplish your purpose. Bring us back to you so that your name is glorified in the earth. Amen

Ready

Heavenly Father, we’re here because we messed up. Every day we ignore you, and we do what’s selfish, and then wonder why we end up so broken. Thank you for accepting us back yet again. Take our failures and our weaknesses and use them for your glory. Fill us with the knowledge of your grace, so that we start acting like your children instead of acting like criminals running from your judgment. We accept your will over our life and ask you to give us the confidence to carry on with our recovery. Amen.

Victory

Heavenly Father, we will never run out of things to thank you for, but today we praise you for giving us faith in Jesus, for filling us with love for each other, for giving us your Spirit of wisdom so we can live for you and for revealing the knowledge of Jesus. Thank you for enlightening our hearts by giving us a sure hope that we get to inherit your kingdom . We praise you for the greatness of your power in us, the same might that raised Jesus from the dead that will some day raise us from the dead. We give all glory to Jesus who sits at your right hand, whose name is over all things. We ask you for these continued blessings today, and forward into eternity. Amen.

Action

Father, we are ready to worship you, we’re ready to know you better, we’re ready to lay down our brokenness. You’ve taken our past mistakes and you’ve completely washed them away. Our only response is to give you our highest praise. You’re worthy of every song we could ever sing. We lift up your glorious name. Amen.

Forgiveness

Heavenly Father, we come to this place because we have issues and we have pain and we need your healing, but mostly we come here because we have so much to be thankful for. If we listed them all we’d be praying all night so please accept the love and care that we show each other tonight as our thank offering to you. It’s your power that enables us to love and forgive in the first place. Give us the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, so that we can live for you. You are amazing God, you have power over everything, and yet you share some of that power with us. Father, Son, and Spirit, we give you glory tonight, tomorrow and into eternity. Amen.

Denial

Father, I’m asking for your help, to step out of my denial, and to stay out of it. Thank you for taking all the shame off of me, because I can’t bear it any longer. I really love the life you’ve given me, the life free from addiction and obsession. Let my life be lived for you. We praise you Father for the miraculous healing you give us, We praise you Son for making it all possible, We praise you Spirit for bringing that healing into our life, every moment of every day.Amen.
